Veikkausliiga 2020 starts in June
Coronavirus and its preventive measures are causing changes to the Veikkausliiga 2020 fixture list. The season starts when the preventive measures are no longer in effect.
The Veikkausliiga Board of Directors has decided to postpone the start of the season due to an official policy. In order to limit the spread of coronavirus, the Finnish government has recommended that all public events of more than 500 people be canceled by the end of May.
Veikkausliiga 2020 will start in June when the coronavirus prevention measures are no longer in effect. The season is played closely and can be extended in November if necessary. The exact schedule for the rest of the season will be discussed with the Football Association, taking into account the Veikkausliiga qualifiers.
Next week, the European Football Association (UEFA) will discuss how to organize the international football in 2020 in an emergency. Once UEFA’s general guidelines are known, a new fixture list can be built for the Veikkausliiga, taking into account any changes to the schedules. If possible within the limits of what is known at the time, the program will be implemented in accordance with the new serial system introduced during the period 2019. The total number of matches will remain at the same level.
The Veikkausliiga opening event will also be postponed. The Veikkausliiga will inform you of any changes as the situational awareness becomes more accurate.
