Under the same stars – HJK Helsinki brings all its stars under one logo
HJK Helsinki has won a total of 53 Finnish Championship titles with the men’s and women’s first teams.
HJK Helsinki has updated its logo by bringing all five Championship stars together. The club’s men’s team has won its 30th National Championship and as a result earned its third star. Besides men, HJK women’s team has won 23 Finnish titles, latest of them last year 2019.
– Every title is equally important to our club. We have successfully lived according to our values and feel our logo also needs to epitomize it. The football world is too conservative and value driven. Modern clubs like HJK Helsinki must be the first to show the way by bringing important values to it, says Aki Riihilahti, CEO of HJK Helsinki and continues:
– HJK men’s first team has been on a successful run to win its third star and our women’s first team has made a strong comeback to the top. Now is the time to recognize both teams successes and achieved stars equally and live according to our motto ”On vain yksi Klubi. – There is only one Club.”
The tradition of stars above the club logo was started by Juventus in 1958, when the club won its 10th Italian championship, or scudetto. Since then the tradition has spread worldwide.
Custom with stars varies and it is up to the clubs how they want to use them, although FIFA has some guidelines in its regulations concerning kits. With this solution HJK Helsinki creates new ground of equality and sense of community being one of the first, if not the first, club in the world that sets its stars earned from winning titles by both men and women on the same level.
